PROCESS // Owl Sketch

Duration: 5-6 hours w/ breaks
Moleskine | Ink pen

-

For some time, I'd been stuck - I wanted to draw something creative and have fun with conceptual sketching except I was missing the "idea". After browsing through the web and inspirational websites like ThisIsColossal (my all time favourite), I came up with this crazy concept to draw a realistic-mechanical-mutant owl. Did it and am completely satisfied; I haven't felt so strongly about a casual piece like this for a while. Plus it has been receiving such positive feedback - so yay & thanks! (:

NOTE THAT EVERYTHING ON THIS PORTFOLIO WEBSITE IS COPYRIGHTED (see bottom of page); please respect my artworks. Thank you!

The way this year slowly unfolds is nothing like I had originally imagined. I had high expectations both for myself and those around me, and it seems as though everything was falling apart. I lost myself only a few weeks into the new year, and I felt myself drowning in darkness. I was not able to meet my own standards and many things got out of control.

But then, my favourite part about life is that somehow, the lowest points always end up climbing upward again - similar to how I often manage to pick myself back up after slipping and falling. Many reasons how and why I can get myself together shortly after things go wrong are actually because of my ingenious Mama (and Papa/Sistah too, sometimes heh). My Mama is not only my best friend/babe, she is also many things such as my mentor, inspiration, role model, and teacher. Undoubtedly, she has her downs; but nothing else can cheer me up like her wise words do. So today, I have decided to dedicate this post just to give you a little push in life. I hope her words can spark some motivation and deep thoughts in you.

YES, LIFE IS UNFAIR. BUT BELIEVE ME, SOMEDAY, ALL THE HARD WORK WILL BE PAID OFF AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT IT IS ALL WORTH IT.
It is so easy to complain about not getting the results you deserve - in school, relationships, life. But then again, you never know what might come next - so keep pushing, persist and stay motivated.

IT IS GOOD TO BE MOTIVATED AND PASSIONATE, BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARE REALISTIC AND LOGICAL.
As a creative individual, I definitely see where she is coming from. I get wild and whacky ideas all the time and I can be very invested in them even though they are obviously not realistic enough. Reality check is always needed.
